Fortinet adds native DLP and AI data controls to FortiEndpoint
Fortinet has announced new capabilities for its unified endpoint platform, FortiEndpoint, framed around helping organizations adopt AI while keeping sensitive data under control.
The piece that matters most for DLP teams is native data loss prevention aimed squarely at AI interactions — inspecting sensitive data exchanged with AI apps, agents, and external services. It’s bundled with AI visibility and governance, endpoint risk and compliance scoring, adaptive zero-trust access, and a FortiAI assistant for natural-language investigations.
The strategic read: platform and SSE incumbents are now pushing “GenAI DLP” down to the endpoint rather than ceding it to the DSPM crowd and standalone AI-DLP startups like MIND, Jazz, and Orion. Getting inspection at the endpoint — before data hits a browser tab or an unmanaged AI service — is a genuinely different control point than network- or API-based approaches.
Two caveats worth flagging before anyone gets excited:
- This is an incumbent adding controls into an existing agent — an expansion, not a new category entrant. That can be a strength (one agent, one console) or a limitation, depending on how deep the detection actually goes.
- Fortinet says the capabilities are slated for Q3 2026 availability. In other words, announced but not yet GA. Treat it as roadmap until you can validate detection quality and coverage — particularly the split between managed AI apps and shadow AI — in your own environment.
For buyers already evaluating endpoint DLP or GenAI data controls, this is a signal to add FortiEndpoint to the shortlist and pressure-test the claims once the features ship.
